FARNSWORTH HOUSE

This project follows four parts; Modelmaking, Orthographic Drawings, Axonometric and Perspectives. Through the project, we were able to have an in-depth understanding of the architectural detail and spatial values of Ludwig Mies van de Rohe's Farnsworth House.

PROGRESS

Following the project brief, I immediately began work on the 1:100 model, which I anticipated would be time and labor intensive. For the roof and flooring, I utilized foam boards, square balsa sticks for the pillars and stairway, and clear PVC sheets for the glass walls. Aside from that, I took sure to add human scale models as a point of reference.

After that, I concentrated on Farnsworth House's orthographic drawings. A floor plan, two elevations, and a section are included. All relevant measurements and grid lines were included to aid me in the later drawings, such as the axonometric and perspectives.

Then, using a T square and a 30 degree set square to make a 30/60 degree axonometric drawing on butter paper, I started drafting out the axonometric. I transferred the drawing onto actual paper and outlined it with ink, taking into account the right line weight, when it was done and confirmed by the tutor during tutorials.

Last but not least, I worked on perspective drawings. We were expected to create one- and two-point perspective sketches of Farnsworth House. I prepared sketches of each perspective drawing after following the online lecture tutorial on how to design them properly. I transferred them to actual paper after they were completed and accepted, as well as adding human models and the surrounding surroundings for context.
