ARCHITECTURE AND ENVIRONMENT
The module introduces the components of environmental conditions and issues. It focuses on human intervention affecting the environment both positively and negatively and the relationship of buildings with the natural system. Students will be introduced to basic environmental awareness through lectures and discussions. Additionally the module introduces students to the basic elements of climate and their influences on architecture, which aims to facilitate students to create acceptable environmentally conscious and comfortable building designs. There will be formative and summative assessments in this module comprising of an assignment, test and case study.
PROJECT 01: CREATIVE ESSAY
The objectives of this project are:
-To encourage students to think creatively.
-To research on idea and concepts related to sustainability.
-To be able to convey systematic thought processes in a creative essay.
SELF REFLECTION
Through this module, I'm able to have more awareness about the importance of the relationship between architects and sustainable architecture. Besides that, I was able to learn how to produce informative diagrams to emphasize the main topic of the essay. I'm glad that through that, I'm able to learn about the tactics that promote good environmental design concepts and construction practices. After finishing this program, I've developed an interest in sustainable building, as it's critical that we have enough resources to meet current demands as well as those of future generations.
ASSIGNMENT 02: DAYLIGHTING
The objectives of this project are:
-To identify passive design strategies for Daylighting.
-To analyze the effect of comfort factors in a person and in a space relating to Lighting.
-Identify architectural idea/concept, how the ambiance is created, sustainability features of this lighting system.
-To be able to criticize the design of the space in terms of thermal comfort by referring to appropriate standards such as ASHRAE, MS1525 , UBBL and GBI.
SELF REFLECTION
I'm more aware of the relevance of the interaction between building design and the environment as a result of this session. Aside from that, I learned about how different climates and external environmental factors affect architecture and how to use them for maximum efficiency in terms of sustainability and usefulness. The use of passive design in buildings is a major theme in this module, as we were requested to improve our building and include it into our project. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn about the numerous ways and strategies for successfully using our energy and natural resources so that we can assure a sustainable future.
