THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE (ARC60704)
Project 01:
Reading the Contexts of Traditional Streets
We were introduced to the various ways of reading the 'lexicons' of traditional streets, either through tangible architectural and spatial aspects or intangible socio-cultural meanings, in this examination. On our chosen site, we undertake a virtual visit using Google Street or Google Earth. In my case, I went for Malacca's Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. The next step is to identify the physical and non-physical surroundings, as well as to convey our findings in the form of a sketch notebook and a written summary.

We were able to comprehend the precise settings that define place identity and evaluate the relationship between architecture and its social, cultural, and intellectual context within the Asian region as a result of this.
REFLECTION
I was able to learn how to use acceptable visual communicative abilities to express my views in an orderly and clear manner after completing this project. With the help of my teacher, I was able to select and identify the more important concerns in my project while omitting the unnecessary. We were also provided design guidance, which helped us present our findings and observations in a more appealing way. Aside from that, I learned more about the historical evolution of traditional Malaysian streets, including building typology, architectural styles and facades, traditional businesses, and so on.
Assignment: Infographic
This assessment required us to create an infographic based on our knowledge of vernacular and traditional architecture, which included traditional Chinese architecture, traditional Indian architecture, vernacular Malay architecture, and vernacular architecture in Southeast Asia, which we learned about throughout the module. I've chosen to focus on traditional Chinese architecture for this assignment, demonstrating my understanding of design thinking, the influence of cosmology, history, society, and culture on architectural production and development, building typology, spatial layout conception, structures, materials, and constructions. I was able to describe the historical development of traditional Chinese architecture in response to its indigenous environments by evaluating, analysing, designing, and organising the gathered data.
REFLECTION
This is your Text paragraph. It’s a great place to add a description of your business, your site or what you do. Use this space to add information for your users, write about your philosophy or your journey and define your distinguishing qualities. Consider adding an image for extra engagement.
Project 02:
Research in Asian Architecture
In order to understand tradition, modernity, and globalisation in Asian architectural contexts, we were expected to create a research poster and a seminar presentation based on a research-based conversation with our peers. As a group of six, we had to identify the major challenges raised in Project 01 and continue our research in one of several directions. Our crew decided to concentrate on the architecture and place identity of Malacca's Jalan Tokong. We had to do thorough literature studies after deciding on our route to identify our topic of study and come up with a good research title. We had to write a topic proposal, an A1-sized research poster, and a video presentation based on our findings.
REFLECTION
We had the opportunity to work as a group on this assessment, which reminded me of the importance of collaboration in obtaining our intended final results effectively and quickly. I was able to improve my communication abilities as a result of this project, as we were required to express and debate our study topic during meetings and discussions. Apart from that, I'm pleased that everyone in my group is cooperative and responsible in performing their allocated work on time and contributing their fair share to the project's success.
